Noise

   Posted by: admin

I regularty used several general purpose noise reduction programs to reduce the noise in my digital camera photographs, my film scans, and in the print scans. I do as part of my restoration business. Noise reduction in all its varied form is a staple of my work. I’ve tested many and settled on three, neat image pro, noise ninja pro, and noise ware pro. I did not test or investigate noise reduction program that use camera specific profiles, of which there are many. All are available as photoshop plug-in and stand alone apps. I use all three often enough to say they all have their merits. They all also have substantial differences, and you may very well find that one or more of them suit you not at all, or that one is so perfect for your needs that you don’t need to bother with the rest. It’s one of those cases where your mileage almost surely will different from mine.

Customize ability matters as much or more to me than the program’s default behaviour and just what noise reduction algorithm it uses. I’m always running into situations that require me to customize the noise reduction setting to get the very best results, so how well a program lets me do that is extremely improtant to me. Overly aggressive noise reduction tends to make everything look like it’s made of viny smooth, shiny, sharp edged, and completely lacking in surface texture. The plastic look does not appeal to me at all. In almost every case, i didn’t care for the results I got using the software’s default settings. Most of the time, it was because the plug in worked to well. It so thoroughly obliterated noise that it wiped out too much fine detail and produced that viny look that I want to avoid.

How to pick the Purrrfect Kitten

   Posted by: admin

You have your heart set on an adorable Persian. But the tabby next to her might be a better fit. One of the biggest mistakes when choosing a cat is picking purely on looks. Before the cuteness factor takes over completely, ask yourself: Is my family ready? Don’t let your kid’s pleas direct your decision. First, consider allergies. About ten million Americans are allergic to cat dander, make sure your family isn’t among them. Second, think about other pets you have. Consult with your vet to see if a cat will be compatible with your dog or other pet. Also ask the vet about specific traits. Some breeds are more reliable and some are more prone to health problems. Finally, be honest about upkeep. Like any pet, cats come with a price tag: litter, vet visits. Earmark a savings fund for your cat in case of an emergency, or consider pet insurance.

How old should it be? Most kittens are furballs of energy, they get into everything, but some of them are a bit less hyper. If you get a kitten that’s at least six months old, you’ll be able to tell if it’s social and active or quiet and laid back. If possible, bring the cat home for a day before you commit to see how it interacts with your family.

Behavior in Action

   Posted by: admin

Even the seemingly simplest mammalian behaviors, such as grooming one’s offspring, involve a complex series of tiny movements that may be invisible to the human eye. But in studying those behaviors, how to break them into reliable, measurable components? Defining, quantifying and assessing mammalian behavior is a thorny problem. Besides a shift in thinking to incorporate the complexity of animals actions, it really takes a great deal of experience and some training to approach behavior work correctly. Some of the scientist come across a number of challenges in imagining and measuring behaviors in the lab and field. For one, testing or observing behaviors in the lab and field.

For one, testing or observing behavior can interfere with the behavior itself. In studyin maternal behaviors in some animals, researchers have to much to measure and less than 21 days in which to do it. Assessments of fearfulbehaviors such as freezing can be variable among different scientists. And researchers who conduct field studies at night may not even be able to see the animals they study.

Too wired to sleep?

   Posted by: admin

A whopping one third of the 100 teens in any school of the united states study said they fell asleep in school at least twice a day, and only 20 percent got 8 hours of shut-eye on chool nights. The two big culprits caffeine and technology. Kids who snoozed during class consumed seventy six percent more. And the more they multitasked with tech gadgets (texting, talking on the cell, listening to an IPOD), the fewer hours they slept.

Obviously, no teen’s going cold turkey, gives a few ground rules: limits caffeinated drinks (including energy drinks like Red Bull) to one a day and turn off cell phones and computers an hour before bedtime.” This gives the brain time to slow down and get into sleep mode.”
